There are several homemade face wash recipes on the internet nowadays. They’re all natural, contain just a few ingredients, are nourishing, easy to make and cheap as well! But there’s a little problem some of us face – most of these face washes contain castile soap!
Don’t get me wrong – castile soap is amazing. It is an all natural soap that forms a lather. But for quite a number of people, it dries out their skin and may aggravate their eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or sensitive skin.
So that’s why in this post, I want to share good homemade face wash recipes without castile soap – THAT WORK! I’ve used these face washes so I can tell you to try out any recipe below and expect good results!

10 Homemade Face Wash Recipes without Castile Soap
1. Oatmeal Face Wash
This is by far the easiest homemade face wash recipe without castile soap. Many people use oatmeal alone to cleanse their skin! Check out how to do it:
What you need
- ½ cup colloidal oatmeal
- 4 drops lavender oil *optional
- Clean plastic jar
Directions
- Mix up the ingredients in a clean plastic jar. Store in your bathroom cabinet. Don’t get water into it!
- To wash your face, place about ½ tsp to 1 tsp of the mixture on your palm, wet it and mix it up to create a paste. Shut your eyes tight and apply the mixture on your damp face. Rinse off with tepid water. Pat your face dry and moisturize!
2. Soothing Aloe & Honey Face Wash
If you have a sunburn on your face or eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, then this face wash will soothe and cool your skin! It has anti-inflammatory properties too!

3. Baking Soda Face Wash
Baking soda feels like as if you’re using soap on your skin! Use a baking soda face wash when you want to scrub the grime off your face! It gently exfoliate dead cells while removing dirt and stale oils from your skin’s surface.
What you need
- ½ cup baking soda
- 4 drops tea tree oil *optional
- Clean plastic jar

- Follow the same instructions as in No.1 above!
3. Coconut Oil Face Wash
Yep, you can wash your face with coconut oil. This creamy white oil is good as a face wash for those with dry skin!

4. African Black Soap Face Wash
Okay so this is one of my favorite Homemade Face Wash Recipes without Castile Soap. And I might admit it’s because it does form a lather! It’s soapy but won’t make your face dry or stiff.

5. Witch Hazel Face Wash
Got oily or acne prine that’s sensitive to soap? You might appreciate this DIY witch hazel face wash!
What you need
- ¼ cup witch hazel
- ¼ cup rose water
- 2 tsp vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel
- Small funnel
- Clean amber bottle for storage
- Cotton pads
Directions
- Place a funnel into the bottle then pour in the measured amounts of witch hazel, rose water and vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel.
- Close the bottle and shake well.
- To use, pour just a little onto a clean cotton pad then gently wipe your face. Repeat if necessary and you’re done!
- Your face will be dirt-free. Now moisturize your face. You can use a pea-sized amount of shea butter if you wanna be natural!
6. Castor Oil Face Wash
For those with extremely dry skin that’s flaky and scaly, this castor oil face wash might be a Godsend! And surprisingly…it can also help those with acne! That’s because castor oil has drawing properties that’ll bring deep cystic acne to the surface. It’s also a genius way of applying castor oil for acne because it won’t stay on your skin and clog it up!

7. Anti-Aging Face Wash

Soap can irritate and redden sensitive skin, even castile soap for some people. That’s why a non-soapy cleanse is ideal. It’s gentle yet does the job perfectly:
What you need
- ¼ cup of colloidal oatmeal
- ¼ cup of kaolin clay
- 5 drops of chamomile oil
- Bowl & whisk
- 4 oz storage jar
Directions
- Mix up the ingredients and store in a clean jar.
- To use, place about 1 tsp on your palm, mix with water then scrub it on your face.
- Rinse off with tepid water.
- Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
- Use this twice a day.

10. How to Wash your Face with Olive Oil
I recently did an Olive Oil Face Wash and I must say it’s lovely! This recipe uses the Oil Cleansing Method to wash your face. It’s only for people with normal and dry skin, though. If you have oily and acne prone skin, then it’s best you stay away because olive oil has the potential to clog pores with its comedogenic (pore clogging) rating of 2 out of 5.

Sounds like a maybe obvious answer but are these recipes you can use to make body wash for the rest of the body or do you recommend something else? I know my face is way more sensitive than the rest of my body.
