DIY pH Balanced Face Wash for Healthy Skin

Using the highly alkaline store-bought face washes throws your skin’s slightly acidic pH out of balance! To maintain a healthy skin pH, try this DIY pH balance face wash recipe!

If your skin’s pH is disrupted, then you can say hello to itchy, sensitive, dry or oil skin and even breakouts. The pH range is 0-14 with the lower scale: 0-6 being very acidic to slightly acidic, 7 being neutral and 8-14 being slightly alkaline to very alkaline. Our skin has a slightly acidic pH of 4.5-5.5. This acidic environment ensures germs are kept away from the skin and it functions normally. Many skin care products especially facial cleansing products are very alkaline, which isn’t healthy for the skin. So that’s why today, I’m going to share with you a simple recipe for a pH balanced face wash.

If you want, get yourself a pH meter to measure the pH of your end product. Ideally, it should be between 4-7 for healthy skin.

What you Need

  • ¼ cup liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • ¼ cup liquid honey (where to get it)
  • 2 tbsp distilled water (where to get it)
  • 1 tbsp argan oil (where to get it)
  • 1-2 tsp organic apple cider vinegar (where to get it)
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
  • Foaming soap dispenser (where to get it)

Directions

  1. What you’re going to do is first pour the liquid castile soap in your liquid soap dispenser, with the help of a funnel.
  2. Now pour in the distilled water and give the bottle and little shake to activate the soap.
  3. Pour in the raw honey, argan oil, apple cider vinegar and lavender essential oil.
  4. Close the bottle and shake well to mix everything up.
  5. Voila! Your pH balanced shampoo is ready for use! You can test the pH – it should be between 4 to 7 on the pH scale. If it’s alkaline, then add a bit more apple cider vinegar or you can even add a pinch of citric acid powder. But don’t add a lot of apple cider vinegar (that’s why I put the measurements as 1-2 tsp so don’t go above this measurement as it can dry your skin a bit).
  6. Store in a cool dry place. It should last a month in your bathroom cabinet. Use every morning and night for a healthy happy face! To tone your face afterwards, spray it with a mixture of ¼ cup distilled water and ½ tsp of apple cider vinegar then moisturize with a natural oil/butter. I like shea butter, jojoba oil and hemp seed oil for dry acne prone skin.

Can’t wait for you to try out this DIY pH balanced face wash and come share your results! xoxo
