DIY Face Wash with Witch Hazel – 2 Recipes

Witch hazel is an ingredient many people have in their medicine cabinets. It soothes bug bites, relieves sunburn, treats cuts and is a good shaving aid. In the beauty department, witch hazel is also popular for facial toning. But what about using it as a face wash? Can it work? Yes, it can!

It may not suit all skin types but it’s perfect for oily or acne prone skin. What are some of the benefits of using witch hazel as a face wash? Check them out below:

DIY Face Wash with Witch Hazel

Have you ever thought of making a DIY face wash with witch hazel as the main ingredient? You might want to try it!

Recipe One: Non-Soapy Face Wash for Oily/Acne Prone Skin

What you need

  • ¼ cup witch hazel (where to get it)
  • ¼ cup rose water (where to get it)
  • 2 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it) or aloe vera gel (where to get it)
  • Small funnel (where to get it)
  • Clean amber bottle for storage (where to get it)
  • Cotton pads (where to get it)

Directions

  1. Place a funnel into the bottle then pour in the measured amounts of witch hazel, rose water and vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel.
  2. Close the bottle and shake well.
  3. Your non-soapy DIY face wash with witch hazel is ready! To use, pour just a little onto a clean cotton pad then gently wipe your face. Repeat if necessary and you’re done! Your face will be dirt-free. Now moisturize your face.

Recipe Two: Soapy Face Wash with Witch Hazel

What you need

  • ¼ cup witch hazel extract (where to get it)
  • ½ tsp liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (where to get it)
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
  • Small funnel (where to get it)
  • Soap dispenser (where to get it)

Directions

  1. Place a funnel in your soap dispenser then add the vegetable glycerin, liquid castile soap and organic apple cider vinegar.
  2. Now add 5 drops of lavender essential oil and swirl the bottle gently to mix up the ingredients.
  3. Add your witch hazel extract next then cap the bottle and shake well to combine everything.
  4. To use, gently work in a little of the mixture on your face and rinse off with cool water.
