What is Pre-Poo?
A pre-poo simply means pre-shampoo or before shampoo. It’s just like no ‘poo which means no shampoo. Anyway this is a method in your hair care routine where you first apply products to your hair then shampoo or wash your hair after about 15-30 minutes. The whole reason for pre-poo is to protect your hair and scalp from the harsh damages caused by the shampooing stage. By pre-pooing your hair, you’ll protect it from protein loss and stripping of its natural oils.
Pre-poo is no new concept either, believe it or not! The practice was first carried out by women from the Indian subcontinent. They massaged coconut oil on their scalps and hair length a few minutes before washing their hair. Coconut oil has actually been proven to protect hair strands from protein loss as well as keep hair cuticles healthy and shiny.
The best thing about pre-poo treatments is that they can be created right in your kitchen from edible ingredients! That’s right! Here at ilovesheabutter.com, we’re all for natural ingredients and DIY! So let’s get into mixtress mode with 6 of these pre-poo recipe for natural hair, shall we?!
6 Pre-Poo Recipes for Natural Hair
*Remember that you can adjust the ingredients according to your hair volume, thickness and length.
1. Hair Protecting Coconut Oil Pre-Poo Treatment
Okay, as mentioned above, Indian women used coconut oil alone for their pre-poo. Now you can do this as well! Coconut oil protects hair from protein loss, which promotes stronger hair and prevents hair loss. It also stops water from filling up the hair strand and causing the hair cuticle to become rough. When the hair cuticles become rough, you know what it means – your hair will lose its natural shine. So a coconut oil pre-poo has a lot to offer for your hair!
