Wake up in the morning to be greeted by hair loss on pillows? You better put a stop to it right now!
Pillow Talk: Yikes! My Pillow Is Covered With Hair!
Many people experience hair loss and don’t even realize it until it’s too late. One great way to find out if you are losing too much hair (at a rate that is faster than the hair replenishment rate), is to check your pillows!
Do You Have Hair Loss On Pillows?
It’s not easy to pinpoint the exact cause of hair loss. Usually there are many factors at play. Some triggers for hair loss include stress, poor nutrition, harsh shampoo, excessive dandruff, and others.
Most people don’t notice hair loss on pillows. But if you are at the point where you actually notice a significant amount of hair loss on your pillow, then you need to do something about it.
How to Stop Hair Loss On Pillows
You should take a good look at your life and find out what could be triggering your hair loss. If it’s poor nutrition, perhaps you should look into hair growth supplements. If it’s stress, try to incorporate meditation and exercise into your life.
What if it’s your pillows worsening your hair loss? Synthetic pillow materials can be too rough on your hair, making it fall out, break or dry out. Let’s look at what you can do about your pillows.
1. Satin Pillows
The easiest way to prevent hair fall caused by synthetic pillow cases (like polyester or polyester-mixes), is to ditch them in favor of satin (or silk) pillow cases. Of course they are slightly pricier, but it is 100% worth the investment when it comes to saving the strands on your head.
2. Satin or Silk Head Wrap
Nowadays you can find readymade silk head wraps meant just for protecting your hair during the night. If you can’t get a silk head wrap, you can just buy a silk scarf, like I did. Wrap the silk scarf securely around your head and go off to lala-land without having to worry about your hair! This has helped many people to prevent hair loss, prevent split ends and improve the quality of their hair strands.
3. Overnight Oil Treatment
Massage your head with a DIY hair growth mix containing olive oil, rosemary essential oil and citriodora oil, every night. Wrap up your hair with a shower cap, towel turban or the silk wrap explained above. This will help protect your hair from the pillow case as well as stimulate super fast hair growth. Wash off the oil in the morning with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.
4. Wash Your Pillow Cases Regularly
This is a no-brainer but keeping your pillow cases clean will help reduce hair fall caused by bacteria and dandruff-causing germs. It will also help you prevent acne on your face. Wash your pillow cases at least 1 – 2 times a week.
5. Replace Old Pillows
Are your pillows ancient? You wouldn’t even want to know what kind of bugs, microscopic critters, fungi and mold could be partying in there. This puts you at risk for dandruff and scalp acne, which can cause hair loss. Dusty old pillows also unnecessarily tax your immune system, which causes a state of inflammation in your body that leads to hair loss.
