Shea butter is the top most choice for many people with dry hair, especially curly haired people. It is a superior moisturizer that acts as a sealant. This means it seals moisture into the hair strands, keeping hair looking hydrated.
Below are three useful shea butter recipes for dry hair. They have worked for many people so prepare to have your dry hair moisturized and soft in no time!
3 Shea Butter Recipes for Dry Hair
1. Whipped Shea Butter Mix for Dry Hair
What you need
- ½ cup shea butter (where to get it)
- ¼ cup aloe vera gel (where to get it)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil (where to get it)
- 1 vitamin E capsule (where to get it)
- 5 drops lavender oil (where to get it)
- 5 drops geranium oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Hand mixer (where to get it)
- Sterilized storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- Melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler.
- Once melted, snip off the edge of the vitamin E capsule and squeeze out the oil.
Then stir in the aloe vera gel and essential oils. - Place your mixture in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.
- When the time is up, get it out and whip using a hand mixer for a couple of minutes.
- Transfer the whipped cream into a sterilized container.
- Use in place of your usual moisturizer.
2. Moisturizing Shea Butter Hair Mask
What you need
- ¼ cup shea butter (where to get it)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (where to get it)
- 1 tsp raw honey (where to get it)
- 15 drops lavender oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Hand mixer (where to get it)

Directions
- Begin by melting shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil in a double boiler.
- Once melted, stir in the raw honey and set aside in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
- Then get it out and mix everything up using a hand mixer till you see it turning white and creamy.
- Store in a sterilized container in a clean dry place.
- Use a suitable amount in your hair and scalp then put on a shower cap and a hot damp towel on top.
- Let it sit for an hour or two then wash your hair well.
3. Deep Conditioner with Shea Butter
What you need
- 1 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (where to get it)
- 1 tsp olive oil (where to get it)
- 5 drops of geranium oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Hand mixer (where to get it)
- Round salve tin for storage (where to get it)
Directions
- Melt the shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil using a double boiler.
- Then set it in the refrigerator to cool down for 15 minutes.
- Get it out, add the geranium oil then whip using a hand mixer till creamy.
- Apply to strands, leave on for 10 minutes then rinse off. Or use as a leave-in conditioner. Both work well.
