Popular in Japan, Korea and China, green bean, also called mung, is an amazing superfood which has numerous health as well as beauty benefits. Its cleansing and exfoliating properties help remove excess sebum, dead cells, germs, dirt, pollution and grime from skin pores, thereby preventing and reducing acne.
Facial scrubs for acne can be rather drying. But in this facial scrub for acne, I’m adding a dollop of yogurt (you can use any type of yogurt as long as its unflavored and sugar free) to reverse the skin drying effects of the green bean. For your own information, below are the skin benefits of green bean and yogurt, which together make a perfectly gentle and effective DIY korean facial scrub for acne!
Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons green bean *in powder form* (get it here)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons greek yogurt (get it here)
What Each of the Ingredients Do
Green Bean
This Eastern superfood is packed with antioxidants and complete nutrients. But what makes it so good for skin is its mild abrasive texture that helps exfoliate dead cells and scrounge off excess sebum on the skin’s surface. It also helps drive out dirt and germs clogged deep within skin pores, thus preventing and reducing acne. Green bean has saponins that help naturally cleanse off dirt and germs from the skin’s surface.
Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the best natural beauty products for acne. Its cooling properties will soothe and calm inflamed acne. It plumps up skin with moisture and makes it as soft as a baby’s. Yogurt is rich in zinc, b-vitamins and lactic acid, which makes it an excellent face mask ingredient for acne.
Directions
1. In a small bowl, add the green bean powder.
2. Pour in the yogurt and stir briskly with a spoon until you get a thick and even consistency. For best results, use Greek yogurt or labneh. I actually used watery yogurt so I had to put in about 2 teaspoons to get the right consistency.
3. Your face mask mixture should look like the last pic:
How to apply this DIY Korean Facial Scrub for Acne
1. Make sure your face is cleansed and completely make up free.
2. Using clean finger tips, apply the facial scrub on your face in gentle circular motions.
3. Leave it to absorb for about 10 to 15 minutes. During this time, ensure not to talk, smile or do anything that can stretch your face, to prevent wrinkles from forming.
4. When the time is up, gently splash tepid water on your face to loosen up the dried mask. Rinse thoroughly until all of the DIY facial scrub for acne comes off.
5. Pat your face dry with a fluffy towel. Moisturize with a pea-sized amount of coconut oil.
