Low porosity hair is very prone to product build-up. And if you’re someone who loves your products, then you must use a clarifying shampoo at least once in a while to remove the residue they leave behind. You totally don’t need to dish out extra cash to buy a clarifying shampoo. Make it at home in a few seconds!
All you need are 4 ingredients and you have a perfect DIY clarifying shampoo for natural hair. Just so you know, this isn’t a foaming or soapy shampoo. It doesn’t form lather like store-bought shampoos but you’ll notice how cleansing and clarifying it is!
Before looking at the recipe, let’s first go through the role each of the ingredients play in this shampoo:
What Each Ingredient Does
⇒ Bentonite clay – Okay, so this natural clay is magical. It has the ability to suck out toxins, impurities and even heavy metals from the body. When you use it for your hair, it drives out grime, product build-up, gunk, stale sebum and everything dirty. It also fluffs up hair, making it soft!
⇒ Apple cider vinegar – We all know how ACV is clarifying. It’s a natural astringent so it removes stale oils and excess oiliness on the scalp and hair. It also helps loosen up product build-up and grime stuck on hair. ACV also promotes shiny hair.
⇒ Lemon oil – Lemon is associated with cleanliness. And it’s so refreshing for the scalp & hair. It is known to help remove dirt, excess oils and other impurities from the scalp and hair. It also makes your shampoo smell nice!
⇒ Water – You need this major ingredient to make your shampoo. You’re going to need just enough to form a semi-thick paste. Don’t make your paste too thick or too watery – just somewhere in between. If you’ve mixed henna before, you’ll know the kind of silky consistency we want. Kind of like thick yogurt…
