Curb your insatiable hunger with these 5 natural appetite suppressants that really work!
I have a problem with hogging a lot. And emotional eating. And day dreaming about food.
Even though I try my best to avoid white sugar and junk food, sometimes I just can’t help reaching out for the Nutella jar especially when I’m cranky. Or eating a ton of sweets when I’m depressed!
It’s really very hard to control myself so when I say the things below are natural suppressants that really work, I mean they REALLY WORK!
I use them almost every day when I feel like bingeing away! Hopefully, they’ll help you too!
Top 5 Natural Appetite Suppressants that Really Work
1. Cloves
This is by far my best natural appetite suppressant. It really knocks out any food cravings I have by keeping my mouth fresh as if I’ve just brushed my teeth! What I do is simply pop one clove in my mouth and let it soften and dissolve for as long as I want. Then I bite it and swallow it down with water. Clove doesn’t just suppress my appetite, it also freshens breath AND promotes healthy teeth and gums! This is a major bonus for me because I’ve had a number of dental appointments this year and even had a root canal done. I really appreciate the cavity preventing powers of clove!
2. Peppermint
Peppermint is the second natural appetite suppressant on this list! It’s a popular ingredient in commercial toothpaste because of its fresh minty taste and scent. That same minty scent and taste is what suppresses your appetite! I buy fresh peppermint leaves so I can chew two leaves in my mouth after a meal which makes me feel like I’ve just brushed and in no mood for food. But if you don’t have fresh peppermint around, you can always make peppermint tea – it also works! Peppermint essential oil is also a good one! Make a simple mouthwash with it as follows: Fill a clean bottle with 1 cup of warm distilled water, 1 tbsp sea salt and 5 drops peppermint essential oil. Shake well and use as mouth wash every after a meal.
3. Lemon Water
I try drinking lemon water every morning and it helps control my appetite so well! I don’t drink plain lemon water because I find this to bother my throat. Instead, I mix ½ tsp of Himalayan pink salt in 1 cup of water (warm water is nice but you can use cold) then squeeze in half a lemon. This mixture is great for regulating bowel movements too! You can drink the lemon water before every meal to prevent eating too much or even after a meal like I do most times.
4. Green Tea
Green tea is well known for weight loss and one of the ways it assists in weight loss is by reducing appetite! A number of studies show that green tea is a natural appetite suppressant. This 12 week study found that taking green tea extract lowers levels of ghrelin, which is a hunger hormone. Another study shows that green tea contains compounds which promote weight loss.
5. Basil
So basil is another fresh herb that I love. The best way to use it is by making a tea with it. Simply boil 1 tsp of dried basil in 1 cup of water. Sip slowly and you’ll curb your huge appetite in no time! Don’t add any sweetener because it won’t work if you do.
