DIY Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioner

Shea butter makes a great leave-in conditioner on its own. But if you mix it up with other natural ingredients, you can make the ultimate DIY shea butter leave-in conditioner to nourish your hair on a whole new level!

Leave-in conditioners are used to seal moisture into hair until the next wash. They keep hair moisturized and soft. Shea butter is used as a leave-in conditioner for frizzy, dry and wild hair. If you’re planning on using it on fine and thin hair, make sure you use just a tiny amount otherwise it will make your hair greasy and limp.

Why shea butter? Shea butter is a superior moisturizer. It’s thick but at the same time penetrates deep. It’s perfect for sealing moisture into dry hair.

Let’s check out the recipe now!

DIY Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioner

Shea butter makes a great leave-in conditioner on its own. But if you mix it up with other natural ingredients, you can make the ultimate DIY shea butter leave-in conditioner to nourish your hair on a whole new level!

What you Need

  • ½ cup shea butter (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp raw honey (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp olive oil (where to get it)
  • 12 drops of any essential oil of your choice (I like rose, geranium, lavender or jasmine!)
  • Double boiler (where to get it)
  • Hand mixer (where to get it)
  • Container for storage (where to get it)

Directions

  1. First begin by melting your shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler. You can simply mash it up with a spoon but if you want a smoother leave-in conditioner, first melt the shea butter. Instead of using a double boiler, you could consider using a makeshift one: Place your shea butter and coconut oil in Pyrex measuring cup and placing the cup in a pot filled with ½ cup of water. Make sure the water doesn’t enter the cup! Now heat the pot on a medium-low heat until the shea butter & coconut oil melt completely.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the olive oil and raw honey.
  3. Now keep the Pyrex cup in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. This is to make it solidify halfway so that when it’s easier to whip into a cream with a hand mixer.
  4. When the time is up, get it out and mix with a hand mixer until it resembles whipped cream.
  5. Then add the essential oils and mix again with the hand mixer.
  6. Transfer your DIY shea butter leave-in conditioner into a sterilized jar.
  7. Store in a cool place and use within a month for best results. It stores up to 3 months. You can keep it in the refrigerator.
  8. To use, scoop a little and apply to damp hair that’s just been washed with shampoo. Make sure you apply just enough – don’t over apply because you don’t want to grease up your hair!

Enjoy your DIY shea butter leave-in conditioner! It will leave your hair soft and moisturized!
