One of my favorite combinations ever is shea butter and lemon oil. It is simply amazing. The citrus scent of the mix is always refreshing and uplifting. And the benefits of these two mixed together are incredible for skin!
Today I want to share with you lovelies a few recipes starring shea butter and lemon oil!
Caution: Lemon oil is known to be photosensitive. So refrain from applying it to skin that’s going to be exposed to strong sunshine. That can be damaging to your skin. Do not use more than the recommended drops of lemon oil. It is very potent and should be handled with caution.
5 DIY Shea Butter and Lemon Oil Recipes
1. Skin Brightening Night Cream
This is my fav recipe ever! I use it religiously every night.
What you need
- 2 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 3 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
- 3 drops frankincense oil (where to get it)
- Magic Bullet blender (where to get it)
- Storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- Add all ingredients into your Magic Bullet (omit essential oils).
- Blend till white and creamy.
- Pour into your container and stir in essential oils with a chopstick.
- Massage a tiny amount on face and neck nightly.
2. Citrus Lip Balm
What you need
- 2 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 1 tsp beeswax pastilles (where to get it)
- ½ tsp raw honey (where to get it)
- 5 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
- Lip balm tubes (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Glass pipette (where to get it)
Directions
- Melt the beeswax and shea butter in a double boiler.
- Once melted, stir in the raw honey and lemon oil.
- Using a glass pipette, transfer the liquid into the lip balm tubes.
- Let them set in the refrigerator for an hour before use.
3. Solid Perfume
What you need
- 1 tbsp beeswax pastilles (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 25 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Round salve tin for storage (where to get it)
Directions
- Melt the beeswax and shea butter using a double boiler.
- Once melted, let it cool off for about 2 minutes then stir in the lemon oil.
- Immediately pour into your salve tin and let it set for an hour in the refrigerator.
- Apply behind ears, collar bones, inner wrists, inner elbows, behind knees and hair ends.
4. Refreshing Lemon Deodorant
What you need
- 4 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 5 tbsp arrow root powder (where to get it)
- 1 tbsp and 1 tsp baking soda (where to get it)
- 20 drops lemon essential oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Wooden spatula
- Amber glass container or deodorant tube (where to get it)
Directions
- In the double boiler, add the shea butter and melt it gently until it turns to liquid form.
- Then add the cornstarch and baking soda.
- Mix everything up with the wooden spatula to form a white liquid.
- Remove from heat and let it cool down for 2 minutes.
- Pour the mixture into an amber glass container and mix in the essential oil using a chopstick.
- If using a deodorant tube, first stir in the lemon essential oil then pour into the tube.
- Leave it to set for 2 hours in the refrigerator.
- Apply a pea-sized amount to clean underarm.
5. DIY Hyperpigmentation Formula
What you need
- ¼ cup shea butter (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp rose water (where to get it)
- 10 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
- 7 drops carrot seed oil (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel (where to get it)
- High speed blender (where to get it)
- Sterilized storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- Dump all ingredients (except essential oils) into your high speed blender.
- Blend away for a few seconds until well combined.
- Ta-da! Your DIY hyperpigmentation cream is ready. Use at night time on affected areas to help lighten them.
