12 Beauty Benefits of Ghee for Skin, Hair & More

Ghee is rising as a superfood because it’s rich in healthy fats & powerful nutrients but did you know that it provides gorgeous beauty benefits as well? Discover 12 beauty benefits of ghee for skin, hair & more in this post!

Below are 12 gorgeous beauty benefits of ghee for skin, hair and more!

1. Wrinkle-Free Skin

Eating ghee as a bread spread, cooking fat or in a cup of milk lubricates your skin from the inside out, keeping it supple and smooth! It contains nutrients like Vitamin E that promote anti-aging. So eating ghee regularly is going to decrease your chances of early wrinkles, making you look more youthful than your counterparts!

2. Deeply Moisturizes Dry Skin

Do you suffer from the driest, flakiest skin? Grab a jar of ghee because it is very moisturizing! It sinks right into the skin and its fats provide a protective coating that heal dry skin, protect it from harsh wind/cold and prevent dehydration of its outer layer.

You can apply ghee directly onto your skin as a nourishing & moisturizing face mask if your skin is dry, tight and painful. To mask its scent to suit your skin better, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil like lavender or rose. Remember, for every tbsp of essential oil, you only need to add 3-6 drops of essential oil – don’t go above that ratio.

3. Body Massage

In Ayurveda, ghee is one of the best oils you can use to give yourself a body massage. It’s recommended to do a daily or weekly body massage an hour or two before taking a shower/bath for its health and beauty benefits! It keeps your skin looking lush while fighting varicose veins, cellulite and other skin problems.

Rub ghee all over your skin (to mask its scent, please add essential oils) an hour before washing your body. This keeps your body healthy by improving blood circulation & nourishes your skin by deeply moisturizing it.

4. Softest Skin Ever

If you want soft skin, you must apply oils on your skin. One of the best oils you can apply for skin as soft as a baby’s is GHEE! In India, where Ayurveda originated from, people actually moisturize their babies skin with ghee as a natural bath oil that is full of nutrients for a healthy body, skin and hair.

  • Bath Oil: Place ¼ cup of ghee in a container and add 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Add this to a warm bath and soak for 15 minutes for the softest well moisturized skin ever!

5. Hair Conditioner

Hair that is super dry, dehydrated and damaged can be repaired if you use ghee as a hair conditioner. Don’t worry about its buttery smell because its hair conditioning and rejuvenating effects are nothing short of miraculous!

Apply ghee on your hair length, wait for an hour then shampoo your hair twice to get rid of excess oils. Use a natural sulfate-free shampoo. Try this every time you wash your hair and use a shea butter hair cream to moisturize your hair afterwards to heal damaged hair quickly.

6. Eye Brightener

Do your eyes look dull and tired? Here’s a beauty secret from India – apply a tiny amount of ghee around your eyes then call it a night. The next morning, rinse your face and wowza! Your eyes will look bright, with the skin around it soft and supple – that means you won’t be getting those unsightly eye wrinkles any time soon!

7. Lubricating Lip Balm

If you’re looking for a natural lip balm that is super lubricating – it’s ghee. Just like it moisturizes skin deeply with its nourishing fats, it does the same for chapped lips. Apply a small amount of ghee to your lips to lubricate them naturally. No more chapsticks needed! Who knows what kind of chemicals are inside them?!

8. Soothes Burns

Another remedy with ghee is that it’s good for soothing burns – whether it’s kitchen burns from the stove top or sunburn. Just apply a suitable amount on your skin. Keep reapplying it after you wash your skin. It’s said to promote faster healing and even prevent a bad burn scar from forming!

9. Treats Eczema

Ghee is more than an excellent moisturizer. It also treats eczema! If you have scaly itchy eczema, then apply ghee on it gently to keep those patches moisturized. Eating ghee also helps reduce inflammation from inside your body and eczema is an inflammatory skin condition so use ghee in your cooking or as a spread!

10. Reduces Dark Lips

Another surprising beauty benefit of ghee is it’s said to help lighten dark lips! Various people say it helps reduce dark lips when applied consistently so it’s up to you to use it to find out! Rub a small amount of ghee on your lips after using a lip scrub to exfoliate dead cells. You should see results in 1-2 weeks of daily application.

11. Moisturizes Nails & Cuticles

Weak nails that don’t have any shine can be made strong, moisturized and shiny by applying ghee on them. Leave it on as an overnight treatment for moisturized nails and cuticles.

12. Heals Cracked Heels

Ghee is much more natural than Vaseline and it works so why not give it a try! Massage ghee onto your cracked heels every night before bed. Don’t forget to throw on a pair of comfortable socks then go to bed to protect your sheets from staining.
