Watermelon is not just a huge fruit filled with water and natural sugars – it also contains a host of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids which are the building blocks of collagen! It is rich in moisture that cleanses & hydrates oily acne prone skin.

Coupled with the anti-bacterial yogurt, this yogurt and watermelon face mask for acne helps fight off acne causing germs as well as remove dirt & grime stuck deep within the pores. The cooling properties of these two ingredients soothes and calms acne inflammation as well. Down below are more benefits of watermelon and yogurt for skin:

Benefits of Watermelon for Skin

Watermelon contains antioxidants such as lycopene, which gives watermelon its red color. These antioxidants help stave off free radicals and slow wrinkles and other signs of premature aging. The skin tightening properties of watermelon shrinks large pores as well as tone and firm sagging skin. Watermelon also has a soothing and cooling effect when applied on skin which makes it effective in calming down skin irritations & inflammations such as acne.

Benefits of Yogurt for Skin

Yogurt is antiseptic & antibacterial due to its natural live enzymes. It also contains soothing properties that cool down acne inflammation. Its lactic acid content gently exfoliates acne prone skin without being harsh on the acne and its water content makes it hydrating which enables it to lock moisture into acneic skin. Yogurt also has zinc, which is usually found in many over the counter acne creams to cure acne. The skin lightening properties of yogurt help fade away acne scars, blemishes and other dark marks on skin.

How to Make a Yogurt and Watermelon Face Mask for Acne

You will need to blend up/mash the watermelon into a smooth puree. Below, I’ve listed down the measurements you can use to make a face mask but you can always make more of the mask for your neck and hands as well.

  • 1 tablespoon watermelon puree
  • 1 teaspoon yogurt

You can use larger measurements like I did and use it for your neck, hands and legs right before a shower for soft moisturized & blemish-free skin!

1. Wash, chop and peel a ¼ section of a small watermelon.

2. Blend it to a smooth puree in a high-speed blender.

3. Add a teaspoon of plain yogurt and mix it with your puree thoroughly.

4. You should finally end up with a well combined mixture like so:

How to Apply the Yogurt and Watermelon Face Mask

1. The first step is to make sure your face is clean and dry so that the watermelon face mask can penetrate deep.

2. Using a face mask brush, scoop up the yogurt and watermelon face mask and start applying it on your face and neck.

3. Let it sit for about 10 to 12 minutes.

4. When the mask has dried up, rinse off gently with tepid water.

5. Pat dry with a fluffy towel.

My Tips

  1. Save the watermelon rinds and rub them over your skin before a shower for refreshed, moisturized and the softest skin ever!
  2. Get greek yogurt/labneh/kefir/any thick full fat yogurt for best results. Remember to use plain, unflavored and unsweetened yogurt.
  3. Using a face mask brush is very effective for applying this drippy yogurt and watermelon face mask. However, if you don’t have a brush, you can use a cotton pad or even your fingers. The only thing is to make sure you stand over a sink to prevent it from dripping onto the floor.

Quick & Easy | One Ingredient Face Masks for Fabulous Skin

One ingredient face masks are most effective for those of us who have busy schedules and simply have no time for gathering up ingredients for a beauty spa at home. For one ingredient face masks, you just need one single ingredient to slather on your face, whether it’s an overripe fruit which you were just thinking of trashing or that large jar of honey jar that’s catching dust bunnies in your kitchen cabinet.

Now you know how to put those ingredients to good use! Read on to find out the nutrient content, benefits and little tips on these simple DIY one ingredient face masks!

1. Banana Face Mask

When most people see overripe bananas with a couple of fruit flies buzzing around them, they toss them into the trash without even looking back. I used to do that too! But now i know better. Overripe bananas are still packed with loads of nutrients and moisture and make wonderful face masks as they are easy to mash up too!

  • 1/2 ripe banana

Using the back of a clean fork, mask up 1/2 a banana. Keep mashing until you get a lump-free gloopy mask. Using clean fingertips, slather the banana face mask onto your face in gentle circular motions. Let the mask sink into your pores for about 10 to 15 minutes. When the time is up, rinse off with warm water first, then cold water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
Before putting on any face mask, do some facial steaming. This will open up your skin pores, allowing the nutrients of the face mask to penetrate deep into your skin.

Egg white face masks are one of the best face tightening and lifting masks out there. If you’ve got sagging cheeks or large pores, an egg white face mask is the one for you! Egg whites also work very well in clearing out acne and getting rid of black heads. Egg whites not only provide oil control action for those with acne prone, oily and combination skin but also nourish skin of all types with multivitamins and minerals. If you’ve got dry cracking skin, please refrain from using an egg white face mask and go for an egg yolk face mask which hydrates  dry skin very effectively.

  • 1 egg white

Whisk the egg white thoroughly until it becomes frothy. Onto your cleaned face, apply the egg white in a gentle circular motion. Avoid the area around your eyes and mouth. Wait for 10 to 15 minutes until the mask completely dries up. Wash off the egg white face mask using warm water. Splash your face with cold water. Pat dry.

When you have the egg white face mask on, ensure not to talk or smile as this will stretch your skin and may cause fine lines.

3. Yogurt Face Mask

Loaded with b-vitamins, zinc, calcium and other potent nutrients, yogurt is a superb food for your face! If you’ve got acne, applying yogurt topically minimizes oil production, tightens large pores, nourishes skin and kills off acne causing bacteria. For dry skin, yogurt moisturizes skin cells.

  • 1 teaspoon yogurt

Apply the yogurt onto your clean face. Wait for about 10 minutes or until the yogurt dries up. When the time is up, rinse off the face mask using warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel. Apply a drop or two of olive oil to moisturize.

Purchase plain, unsweetened, unflavored probiotic yogurt for skin to avoid skin irritations and rashes and for best results. Plain Greek yogurt can be used.

4. Honey Face Mask

Honey is the ancient cure all when it comes to many types of skin ailments including burns, inflammations, acne and dry skin. Honey moisturizes dry skin, soothes inflamed acne, fights off acne causing bacteria and promotes the triple S: soft smooth supple skin.

  • 1 teaspoon liquid honey (buy here)

Wash your face with warm water to open up your pores. Dry with a clean towel. Onto your cleaned face, pat 1 teaspoon of raw honey. Avoid the eye area. Sit for 15 minutes to let the nutrients penetrate deep. When the time is up, rinse off with warm water first, then cold water to close off pores. Pat dry.
As honey is sticky and drippy, apply this honey face mask over your kitchen/bathroom sink to avoid a messy floor.

5. Avocado Face Mask

The creamy avocado is popularly used for face masks to get soft and smooth skin. What makes avocado so good for skin? It contains a host of phytochemicals, antioxidants and minerals for supple skin. Avocados contain potent anti-inflammatory anti-aging antiseptic and anti-fungal properties that guard skin from skin inflammatory conditions including rashes, eczema, rosacea and others.

  • 1 tablespoon mashed avocado

Using the back of a fork, mash 1/4 an avocado into a consistent pulp. Smear the mixture onto your face and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. When the time is up, rinse using warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Tie your hair behind and away from your face to prevent the mask from sticking to your strands.
