When it comes to shea butter, many of you (especially those who use this beauty butter for hair) may be wondering if it also helps promote hair growth. Good news! I’m here to tell you that yes, you can use shea butter to get strong long and thick hair! I’ve heard stories of people who’ve used shea butter to get beautiful hair and even reverse alocepia. It works! And when combined with other nutritious ingredients, you can make your own shea butter hair growth recipes & mixes at home.
Below, I’ve shared 3 of the best shea butter hair growth recipes and how they help enhance hair growth:
3 Shea Butter Hair Growth Recipes
Note: I actually started using East Shea Butter/Shea Butter Nilotica and I find it so much better than West Shea Butter for so many reasons – it’s incredibly softer, penetrates much easier, is less oily and has a pleasant nutty scent that doesn’t over power at all. I actually like that light nutty scent! :p You can get East Shea Butter here.
1. Nourishing Egg Shea Butter Hair Growth Recipe
Hair growth recipes that contain egg will not only nourish the hair follicles but also strengthen them and make hair appear shiny and glossy. I love using egg in my hair and I recommend using an egg hair mask weekly for those who want to grow long and thick hair fast. The other ingredients in this shea butter hair growth recipe are rosemary essential oil and jojoba oil and you can discover all their benefits for hair below:
➝ Egg – Eggs are rich in protein and sulphur – which are two key ingredients necessary for hair growth and thickness. They also contain a chock-load of vitamins, minerals and healthy fat that nourish the follicles and make hair appear shiny.
➝ Rosemary Essential Oil – Being a natural stimulant, rosemary essential oil is one of the best essential oils for hair growth and treat hair loss. By improving circulation in the scalp, rosemary essential oil will stimulate the hair follicles hence promote hair growth.
➝ Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil strengthens the hair, preventing thinning, damage and breakage. It also encourages the growth of new hair cells as well as adds a beautiful sheen to hair.
Ingredients
- ¼ to ½ cup of raw shea butter (get it here)
- 1 to 2 eggs
- 2 tbsps of jojoba oil (get it here)
- 3 to 5 drops of rosemary essential oil (get it here)
Directions
Gently melt the shea butter using a double boiler. Pour the melted shea butter in a blender. Crack an egg in the blender and add jojoba oil and rosemary essential oil. Blend the ingredients until well combined. Apply the mixture onto your scalp and hair. Cover with a plastic bag or disposable shower cap. Leave it on for about 30 minutes (15 minutes if using a hooded dryer). When the time is up, rinse thoroughly and wash with your favorite shampoo to get rid of all the hair treatment.
2. Coconut Oil and Shea Butter Hair Growth Mix
The coconut oil and shea butter combo is one of my favourite shea butter mixes and surprise! It’s also a powerful hair growth formula! I’ve added two more hair loving ingredients that will assist in promoting strong long hair and have lots of other benefits for hair as you can see below!
➝ Coconut Oil – In Ayurveda, coconut oil is the number one plant oil that is used to encourage hair growth. It is rich in hair boosting nutrients including vitamins, minerals and fatty acids that feed the hair follicles with goodness and promote new hair growth.
➝ Jamaican Black Castor Oil – Using Jamaican black castor oil in this shea butter hair growth recipe ensures rapid hair growth by improving blood circulation in the scalp. Jamaican Black Castor Oil is also known to help treat dandruff, dry itchy scalps, bald spots & alocepia, thinning hair and solve brittle & dry hair issues.
➝ Eucalyptus Essential Oil – I’ve talked about how great eucalyptus essential oil is in treating hair loss and promoting hair growth. This refreshing smelling essential oil is known to be a stimulant as well as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent that promotes a healthy scalp.
Ingredients
• ¼ to ½ cup of raw shea butter (get it here)
• 2 tbsps of coconut oil (get it here)
• 1 tbsp of black Jamaican castor oil (get it here)
• 3 to 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil (get it here)

Apply the hair growth recipe on your scalp and strands using clean fingertips. Let it sit for about 30 minutes after covering your hair with a shower cap or saran wrap. When the time is up, rinse off thoroughly with sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water.
3. Strong Long Hair: Olive Oil Shea Butter Hair Growth Recipe
Just like coconut oil, olive oil is a nutrient-dense hair oil that will help enhance hair growth and promote healthy, shiny and beautiful hair. The other ingredients used in this shea butter hair growth recipe are yogurt, which will also make your hair soft and bouncy and vetiver essential oil, one of the most powerful essential oils for hair growth! Wanna know more? Read on! I’ve listed the ingredients and their awesome benefits below:
➝ Olive Oil – Olive oil works wonders in treating hair loss! It not only stimulates blood flow but also hinders the production of DHT, which is a hormone responsible for the shrinkage of the hair follicle shaft, and is commonly affects people suffering from hair loss.
➝ Yogurt – The benefit of yogurt when it comes to promoting hair growth is its rich nutrient content. Yogurt is rich in multi-vitamins, contains a chock-full of protein and other minerals that enhance hair growth. Yogurt basically nourishes the hair follicles and feed them with hair boosting goodness.
➝ Vetiver Essential Oil – Vetiver essential oil is one of the best essential oils for hair growth and I personally love drinking vetiver infused water for its numerous health & beauty benefits! Used since ages ago in India, vetiver is used as a hair cleansing agent and is used to protect the scalp from impurities and germs as well as promote rapid hair growth.
Ingredients
• ¼ to ½ cup raw shea butter (get it here)
• 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil (get it here)

You can choose to apply heat if you want – heat will help the treatment sink deeper. Hi queen. I strongly advise against keeping the shea egg treatment overnight because egg is rich in protein and you mustn’t leave protein hair treatments for more than an hour or so. If you do, your hair will end up really dry, rough and hard. This also promotes hair breakage!
Another thing is that dried up hair masks are very difficult to rinse off and I don’t know how many times you would have to rinse to get rid of it completely. There’s also the discomfort and stink factor to consider.
I say, just keep the shea egg treatment on for about 15 to 30 minutes and rinse off with tepid water. It’s deeply nourishing & conditioning for all hair types especially natural hair!
Take care! xx
