Warning: Oils Which Darken Skin

These oils can darken the skin! Please understand that if you want to lighten your skin, you need to steer clear of these oils which DARKEN the skin.

After I wrote my previous post about how almond oil darkens the skin (read here), I realized you guys need to know about all the oils that actually darken the skin. So here are the top 3 oils that many people have complained about.

Top 3 Oils Which Darken the Skin

  • Coconut Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Olive Oil

Do These Oils Really Darken the Skin?

You might be wondering if it’s true that oils like coconut, sweet almond and olive oil can darken the skin. Many of us natural beauties love these oils, especially coconut oil which is all the rage now. But it’s no coincidence that so many people are actually complaining about these oils darkening the skin. You could scour the internet and you’ll find real life testimonials about how people noticed their skin darkening significantly after using these oils.

One user said she used coconut oil for 3 months and noticed that while her skin got softer, it became visibly darker and tanned! Another user talks about how she used a weekly face mask of olive oil and honey and noticed her facial complexion darkening.

Yet the puzzling thing is, countless other people are using these oils with no problem at all! So who is prone to skin darkening with such carrier oils? It seems that those who have medium skin tones, or those with olive-to-brown skin tones are more prone to skin darkening. Those of South American or South East Asian skin tones also seem more susceptible to skin darkening with carrier oils.

However, if you have pale skin, these oils are a gift because they can help you gain some color and look more appealing. Also, if you are looking to tan your skin naturally, these oils are a great choice!

Looking to lighten your skin tone? Then avoid these oils that darken skin: coconut, olive and almond oils!

One More Thing About Oils Which Darken the Skin

There’s one more tip I must tell you guys about oils which darken the skin. This tip was actually given to me by a skin care professional who was selling sweet almond oil. I was buying sweet almond oil for my hair but out of curiosity I asked him if I could apply this oil for my skin.

He warned me that wearing almond oil and going out in the sun can greatly tan and darken your skin. But almond oil is very beneficial otherwise! This seems to be the case with coconut oil as well. So if you want to enjoy the benefits these oils, apply them during the night. Stay away from them in the day time, though, especially if you are stepping out into the sun.
