This secret superfood is one of the best herbs to keep you well-armed against colds, cough, flu, chest congestion, sore throats and every other irritating respiratory condition the cold winter brings. Can you now guess what this superfood is? It’s GARLIC! Yes, I know you must find it very surprising that garlic has been added to this sweet lentil porridge but worry not, as I said, it does not spoil the flavor and you won’t even taste it at all. How come? It’s because this recipe is a pressure cooker recipe where the ingredients almost get mashed up together. This sweet lentil porridge is warm and soothing as well as rich and creamy – perfect for a cold winter day! Ok, now let’s look at the ingredients!
Warm & Sweet Lentil Porridge Recipe for Winter |With Secret Superfood Ingredient!
Ingredients (serves 2-4)
– ½ cup black lentils (buy here)
– ¼ cup rice (buy here)
– 15 cloves of garlic
– 1 tbsp fenugreek seed (buy here)
– 2 cups milk
– ¼ tsp salt
– Natural sweetener as needed
What Each Ingredient is Good for
I must admit, some of the ingredients seem rare and exotic but when you read their health benefits you will feel the need to buy these superfoods fast and try out this nutritious sweet lentil porridge recipe right now!
- Black Lentils – Rich in dietary fiber which makes it good for digestion and people suffering from digestive issues, rich in protein which makes it a great post-workout porridge, gives you energy while stabilizing blood sugar, rich in iron which makes it good for anemic as well as menstruating and post partum women, for good heart health.

Directions
- After rinsing the black lentil and rice to remove any dirt, place them in a saucepan and add 6 cups of water.
- In a pressure cooker, place a stainless steel circular trivet then place your saucepan containing the lentil and rice on top of the trivet. Close the pressure cooker and put the whistle on.
- Cook for 12 minutes.
- When ready, turn off the burner and remove from the saucepan.
- Now add 2 cups of milk. I used farm fresh free range milk but you could also use coconut milk or any plant milk of choice but I recommend coconut milk for its creamy richness.
- Add natural sweetener to taste. I used raw cane sugar but you can use maple syrup, rice syrup, coconut sugar or any other sweetener you prefer.
- Serve hot in a bowl and enjoy!
