I love vegetable glycerin! It’s so smooth, silky and very hydrating! It’s a super cool ingredient to add into your homemade skin care recipes because of its versatility and great beauty benefits!

6 DIY Vegetable Glycerin Recipes for Skin
1. Hydrating Face Moisturizer
What you need
- 3 oz organic rose water (where to get it)
- 1 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- 1 tsp jojoba oil (where to get it)
- 5 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
- 4 oz amber spray bottle (where to get it)
Directions
- Combine all your ingredients in the amber spray bottle.
- Spritz onto your clean face to moisturize. If you apply toner on your face, using it right after toning.
2. Homemade Lotion with Glycerin and Beeswax
What you need
- ½ cup shea butter (where to get it)
- 1 ½ tsp beeswax pastilles (where to get it)
- 2 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- 2 tsp coconut oil (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Hand mixer (where to get it)
- Storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- Begin by melting the shea butter, beeswax pastilles and coconut oil in a double boiler.
- Once melted, stir in the vegetable glycerin and let the mixture cool off for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.
- By this time, your mixture should have partially solidified.
- When that happens, get the mixture out and whip it up using a hand mixer till you get a smooth white cream.
- Transfer to your storage container and store in a cool dry place. You can add 10 drops of your favorite essential oils for scent + nourishing properties. I recommend using lavender oil, ylang ylang oil, geranium oil or frankincense oil.
3. Cooling Gel for Skin Rashes, Bug Bites, Hives & More
What you need
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel (where to get it)
- 2 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil (where to get it)
- Small sterilized container (where to get it)
Directions
- Mix up all the ingredients in your small container.
- Coat your skin (the affected areas) with this cooling gel for relief!
4. Soothing Acne Treatment
What you need
- 2 tbsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- 2 tbsp orange blossom water (where to get it)
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil (where to get it)
- 4 oz amber dropper bottle (where to get it)
- Small funnel (where to get it)
Directions
- Using a small funnel, pour the measured amounts of vegetable glycerin and orange blossom water into your dropper bottle.
- Now add the tea tree oil drops.
- Close the bottle and shake it well to create an emulsion.
- Apply on your skin to soothe painful, angry and red acne.
5. Moisturizing Face Wash
What you need
- 1/3 cup unscented liquid castile soap (where to get it)
- 2/3 cup organic rose water (where to get it)
- 1 tsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- ½ tsp vitamin E oil (where to get it)
- 10 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
- 8 oz plastic amber pump bottle (where to get it)
- Pyrex measuring cup (where to get it)
Directions
- Measure your organic rose water with the Pyrex cup then transfer it into the pump bottle slowly.
- Now measure out and transfer your liquid castile soap.
- Add the vegetable glycerin, vitamin E oil and lavender essential oil.
- Close the bottle and shake gently to combine the ingredients together.
- Shake a little before use. Wash your face twice: when you wake up and when you’re going to bed.
6. Oil-Control Toner
What you need
- 1 tbsp vegetable glycerin (where to get it)
- ¼ cup organic rose water (where to get it)
- 1 tbsp witch hazel (where to get it)
- 7 drops geranium essential oil (where to get it)
- 4 oz amber glass spray bottle (where to get it)
- Pyrex measuring cup (where to get it)
Directions
- Pour your organic rose water into the Pyrex cup.
- Now add the witch hazel and vegetable glycerin and stir well.
- Pour the mixture into your spray bottle.
- Finally, add your geranium oil drops, close the bottle and shake well.
- To use, spray on your face with your eyes closed. Let it dry then apply moisturizer.

Hi, for the body butter, in steps 1 & 5 you mention twice to put glycerin in, but never reference the coconut. Should glycerin be added at step 1 when hearing the solids or at step 5? And does this not leave little glycerin drops in your butter mixture since there’s no water in here?
