Want a recipe for DIY hair pomade without beeswax? Look no further than this easy recipe!
Hair pomades grip and hold hair perfectly in place. They also moisturize hair and add a shine to it. Hair pomades are mostly suited to curly hair and can be used in place of styling gel.
It’s easy to make your own hair pomade if you don’t want the added unnecessary chemicals found in store-bought pomades. But the problem comes in when you’re vegan or just don’t want to use beeswax when making your pomade. Thankfully, there’s a good alternative that you can use to make a DIY hair pomade without beeswax!
It’s emulsifying wax. This is a product that is used for finely blending up ingredients to create a smooth and well combined lotion, cream or other liquid cosmetic products that contain oil and water. It has a heavy texture like beeswax and you can control the thickness of your hair pomade by adding more or less of it.
Okay, now let’s get to the recipe!
DIY Hair Pomade without Beeswax
What you need
- 1 tbsp shea butter (where to get it)
- 1 tbsp cocoa butter (where to get it)
- 1 tsp olive oil (where to get it)
- 2 tsp emulsifying wax (where to get it)
- Double boiler (where to get it)
- Sterilized storage container (where to get it)
Directions
- In your double boiler, gently melt the shea butter, cocoa butter and emulsifying wax together.
- Once melted, add the olive oil and let the oils cool down for about 2 minutes.
- When they cool down, pour the oils into a sterilized glass jar.
- Let it set in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before use.
My Tips
- The above DIY hair pomade recipe is a base recipe so you can adjust it to suit your preferences. For oily hair, you can use something less greasier than olive oil such as grapeseed oil.
- If you want your hair pomade to have a scent, add any essential oils of your choice. Sandalwood oil, orange oil and cedarwood oil are great choices, especially for a men’s pomade!
So that’s how you make a DIY hair pomade without beeswax! Try it out and let me know how it goes!

Do you have a recipe for pomade with beeswax instead of emulsifying wax? Or would I just make an equal substitution? Thanks! So glad I found this site!

I’ve been trying to find vegan pomade (without scent) for a while, without much luck. I’m going to give this recipe a try! 🙂
